Aaron Norris, a 43-year-old artist hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, has showcased his unwavering passion for golf and art by ingeniously crafting a large mural of Tiger Woods using an unexpected medium - golf tees. The inspiration struck Norris as he consistently stumbled upon broken tees during his visits to the local golf course.
Reflecting on the genesis of his unique project, Norris shared, “Every time I played golf, I would see all these broken golf tees laying on every tee box.” The persistent thought that he could repurpose these discarded tees into something artistic led him to embark on this creative journey.
Over several months, Norris diligently collected broken tees from the golf course, even enlisting the help of neighbors who played golf to contribute to his growing supply. The result was a stunning portrait of Tiger Woods, meticulously composed of 25,000 golf tees. Approximately half of these tees were sourced from the golf course, while Norris invested an additional $400 in acquiring the rest to complete his masterpiece.
Notably, this isn’t Norris’s first foray into sports-related artwork. His portfolio boasts previous works such as an oil-on-canvas depiction of Muhammad Ali, a mosaic-beaded portrait of Elon Musk, and a painting featuring the NFL’s Kelce brothers.
Sharing his artistic process, Norris documented the mural’s creation on social media, starting with an Instagram post on September 30th featuring an empty frame and the caption, “I may or may not be about to do something really stupid.” The subsequent posts chronicled the meticulous placement of each tee, showcasing the labor-intensive nature of the project.
The dedication paid off, as the Tiger Woods mural garnered immediate attention and was swiftly sold. Although Norris didn’t disclose the exact amount offered for his artwork, the rapid sale suggests that, contrary to initial skepticism, the world was more than ready for another Tiger Woods portrait, especially one created with such innovative flair. In the end, Norris’s fusion of sports enthusiasm and artistic ingenuity proved to be a winning combination.
