Security footage has emerged from a South Lake Tahoe home showing an uninvited guest boldly helping himself to the contents of the owner’s refrigerator mid-break-in.
Scott Cloutier, the cabin’s owner, was startled to discover that his residence had been the site of a late-night snack raid, and the intruder was not human. Instead, security cam footage from inside the home reveals that the real culprit was none other than a bear with a sweet tooth.
It’s not clear exactly how the furry felon easily bypassed traditional home security measures, but for those expecting a dramatic door-busting entrance, think again. This bear slipped in with the stealth of a ninja combined with the grace of a ballerina.
Clearly, this was not the home invader’s first time around the refrigerator. Rumor has it, he’s been reading a lot of fairy tales.
Once inside the cabin, the criminal’s first stop was the kitchen, of course. The bear casually opened the fridge as if he had done it a thousand times before. No hesitation, no fumbling with the handle – just a focused bear with a singular purpose… jelly.
“Yeah, I’m a jelly lover, so what? Everyone thinks bears only eat honey. That’s nothing but a stereotype perpetuated by Winnie the Pooh! Well, I ain’t eating honey, and I ain’t wearing no crop top.”
In a “grizzly” scene not fit for sensitive viewers, video footage shows the bear mauling and devouring the entire jar of jelly, without so much as a piece of toast in sight. The horror! After the bear decimated the jelly stash, he licked his paws clean to destroy any evidence and waddled away satisfied.
The owner of the cabin was left with nothing but a trashed kitchen and an epic story to tell. If there weren’t video evidence to prove this home invasion was caused by a bear with a taste for crime (and jelly), no one would ever believe this real-life episode of Yogi Bear actually took place.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reported that bears are currently on a mission to bulk up for hibernation, which typically begins in October. So, it seems this bear burglar was just doing what we all like to do when the temperatures drop – preparing for a long nap by raiding the nearest all-you-can-eat buffet.
So, if you find yourself in bear country this October, keep an eye on your fridge. You never know who might wander into your kitchen in search of a snack.
