You think traffic is bad? Imagine some kid doing pull-ups on a bar coming out of your truck while you’re trying to drive. An 18-year-old Armenian teenager, Grigor Manukyan, did just that—and he broke a record, too. Indeed, the teen etched his name into the Guinness Book of World Records by achieving the most consecutive pull-ups on a bar suspended between two moving trucks. The jaw-dropping feat included an impressive 44 pull-ups, surpassing the previous record of 35 set by “The Italian Butterfly” Tazio Gavioli just last year. And if you’re wondering why he didn’t quit after 36, well…maybe you don’t have what it takes.
The challenging setup required the two trucks to maintain a minimum speed of 5 km/h (3.1 mph) while Grigor hung from the bar. In an interview with Guinness World Records, Grigor revealed that this was not particularly difficult for him; he expressed confidence that he could have surpassed the 44 pull-ups but chose to stop there, as a symbolic dedication to the memory of the heroes who lost their lives in the 44-day Artsakh war. So maybe he deserves a Guinness World Record for confidence, too.
Grigor lives in the Armenian town of Talin which—despite its small size of 8,000 residents—boasts an impressive array of world record holders under the guidance of Coach Roman Sahradyan. Among Sahradyan’s remarkable achievements is an attempt for the most consecutive gymnastic high bar giants. His influence extends to a growing group of record-breaking students, with over two dozen individuals striving to surpass various records.
The video of Grigor’s extraordinary achievement was on the GWR’s official social media platform. In it, you can see the teenager’s unwavering focus, agility, and physical prowess. The video has since garnered over 69k views (nice), steadily increasing (less nice) as viewers marvel at the incredible accomplishment. What’s even the point of breaking world records, if you can’t go viral for it?
This is not the first time Grigor has left spectators astounded. In November 2022 he set another record for the ‘Most chin-ups from a helicopter in one minute,’ achieving a total of 36 chin-ups. He also set the record in December 2022 for the ‘Most four-finger pull-ups with a 20 lb pack in one minute’ (31) and previously held the record for the ‘Most towel pull-ups in one minute’ (33), a title later surpassed by Matthew Caruana from Australia. He is currently preparing to set a similar record for the most pull-ups from a plane in one minute. Next up—most pull-ups done in outer space? Unless the lack of gravity makes it easy. Actually, that’s probably why Elon Musk wants to go there so badly. That, and I think it gives him a constant erection.
