Wawa Fan Has Impressive Collection, Also Probably Diabetes

You may think you’re a fan of (mostly) Northeastern convenience store Wawa, but one megafan has got receipts, namely 1,000 order slips in numerical order. And while the store may still be his favorite, he’s currently seeking a new hobby.

If there’s one thing that people from Pennsylvania and New Jersey can agree on, it’s that Wawa is the best convenience store ever. Has the quality slipped a bit from way back in the day when they actually used to slice their hoagie meat in front of you? Perhaps, but try ordering an endlessly customizable sandwich from a touch screen at your 7-11. Or see how many kinds of coffee a Jimmy Johns has. Or try getting gas at a Taco Bell. Okay, maybe scratch that last one.

Regardless, Wawa has gained a loyal and sizable cult following that views it as more of an amusement park than just a mere place to get coffee, gas, and a soft pretzel. Just ask Johnny Knoxville. Or better yet, you can ask Barnegat, NJ’s Tyler Gyurisin. The 22-year-old tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that he goes to the store closest to him three or four times a day, which may be two or three times too many if you ask us. That said, we don’t have 1,000 order slips ranging from 1 to 1,000, a feat that took Gyurisin over three years to accomplish.

The crazy thing (other than that crazy thing) is that he didn’t even start out wanting to collect 1,000 order receipts but had another totally ridiculous Wawa-related stunt in mind. Way back in 2019, Gyurusin began a quest to take a picture of himself outside every Wawa. There are currently 1,050 stores reaching all the way down to Virginia, and, after randomly skipping a handful of southern states, also a few in Florida. He’s accumulated over 100 pics of him outside stores in six states so far, so it’s safe to say he’s pretty far from achieving that goal. But he also accumulated enough order slips in his car as he continued to visit more stores to give him the dumb idea to collect order numbers 1-1,000.

Was it really a dumb idea, though? It isn’t technically just Gyurisin who holds the record since he asked friends to help out with some numbers he couldn’t get, with him telling the Inquirer that some of the 600s were hard to find. He also said that he got some numbers from the baskets where people drop off their order slips after getting food, which sounds a bit dicey. With all that said, since Wawa tagged him after he finished, his post about it has garnered 4.1 million views and counting, and unlike other Wawa superfans, his story has been featured in the Playboy of convenience store trade magazines, Convenience Store News. He’s also been offered a basket of swag from Wawa and a marriage proposal. So maybe not that dumb of an idea. We can guess where the couple will be registered if he says yes.
